J. Cole: From Campus to Concert

Documenting two J. Cole moments through photography, video, and social storytelling.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project connects two J. Cole moments I documented in 2026: his surprise appearance at North Carolina A&T and opening night of The Fall-Off Tour in Charlotte. Through photography, video, editing, and social-first storytelling, I captured the energy of each setting and the connection between the artist, the audience, and the surrounding culture. My NC A&T coverage generated more than 4.1 million combined views across Instagram and TikTok and earned a repost from Nick Cannon.

01 — THE CAMPUS MOMENT
On February 7, minutes after my younger brother sent me J. Cole’s post announcing his full-circle return to NC A&T, I recognized both a personal moment and a major media opportunity. I changed plans, grabbed my gear, and rushed to campus, moving ahead of the growing crowd to capture his arrival, interactions with students, and remarks from atop the car as thousands gathered. That night, I edited the footage into a short-form post and collaborated with NC A&T’s official Instagram account to expand its reach. As the video gained momentum, I followed the next morning with a first-person recap that added context and extended the story beyond the original viral moment.
02 — THE CONCERT EXPERIENCE
Months after documenting J. Cole’s surprise visit to NC A&T, the story continued at opening night of The Fall-Off Tour in Charlotte. Before the show, Cole unexpectedly appeared near my section, giving me the opportunity to capture close, candid frames as he made his entrance, followed by performance photographs that documented the scale and energy of the concert. The experience completed the visual journey from a spontaneous campus moment to a full-scale arena production.
PROJECT IMPACT
4.1M+ COMBINED VIEWS
2.7M+ Instagram • 1.4M+ TikTok
My NC A&T coverage grew from a spontaneous campus moment into a widely shared digital story. By publishing in real time, collaborating with NC A&T’s official account, and following the original post with a first-person recap, I extended the story beyond a single viral clip. The work was acknowledged or amplified by The Fall Off, Ibrahim “IB” Hamad, Nick Cannon, RapDirect, and House of Highlights, demonstrating my ability to recognize a cultural moment and turn it into meaningful social content.
